# Add live chat to PrestaShop: free module guide

Upload the free Frosvo module to PrestaShop 1.7 or later, paste your site key, and live chat appears on every shop page without touching your theme.

Shoppers ask about delivery, sizes and returns right before they buy. A chat on the page answers while they are still deciding. This guide installs the free Frosvo module for PrestaShop and checks it works on your shop.

## What do I need before I start?

- PrestaShop 1.7 or later (the module is tested on PrestaShop 8.2).
- A Frosvo account (the free plan is enough) with your shop added under **Settings → Websites**, and its **site key** copied.

## How do I install the module?

1. Download the module from the [PrestaShop download page](/download/prestashop-module).
2. In your PrestaShop back office, go to **Modules → Module Manager** and click **Upload a module**, then choose the zip.
3. Click **Configure** on **Frosvo Live Chat**, paste your site key and save.
4. Visit your shop. The chat button appears in the corner of every page.

The module adds the chat through PrestaShop's `displayBeforeBodyClosingTag` hook, so it works with any theme. It changes no theme files and adds nothing to your checkout.

## Which settings does it have?

| **Frosvo address** | Leave it as `https://frosvo.com` unless you run your own Frosvo server. |
| **Recognise signed-in customers** | On by default. The customer's name and email are sent to Frosvo, so your team knows who is writing. |

Connect the PrestaShop integration in Frosvo as well, and your team sees each customer's orders right next to the conversation.

## How do I check it works?

1. Open your shop in a private window. The chat button should show.
2. Send a test message. It should arrive in the Frosvo shared inbox, labelled with your shop.
3. Sign in to the shop as a test customer and chat again. The desk should show the customer's name.
4. Ask the same question on a phone-sized window, and check the chat does not cover your add-to-basket or checkout buttons.

## What can the assistant answer for a shop?

On the paid plans, write short articles for your most common questions (delivery times and costs, returns, sizing) and the [AI assistant](/docs/ai-assistant) answers from them and hands anything about a specific order to your team. The chat itself and the shared inbox are free.

## What if something does not work?

- **The chat does not appear.** Check the site key is saved, then clear PrestaShop's cache. Test signed out or in a private window.
- **An optimisation module is on.** Combine, minify and cache modules can serve an old copy of your pages: clear them after installing.
- **Your theme is heavily customised.** If your theme's layout does not call the `displayBeforeBodyClosingTag` hook, add `{hook h='displayBeforeBodyClosingTag'}` before the closing body tag.
- **A security policy blocks it.** Allow Frosvo's address in your content security policy.

## How do I update or remove it?

To update, upload the new zip in **Modules → Module Manager**: PrestaShop replaces the module and keeps its settings. To remove it, uninstall the module there. Conversations stay in Frosvo.

## Common questions

### Does the module change my theme or checkout?

No. It only adds the chat script through a standard PrestaShop hook, so your theme files and checkout are untouched.

### Which PrestaShop versions does it work with?

PrestaShop 1.7 and later. It is tested on PrestaShop 8.2.

### The chat does not show on my shop. What should I check?

Check the site key is saved, clear PrestaShop's cache and any optimisation module, and test signed out. If your theme does not call the displayBeforeBodyClosingTag hook, add it before the closing body tag.

### Is the PrestaShop module free?

Yes. The module is free and open source (MIT), and Frosvo's free plan includes the chat and the shared inbox. The AI assistant is on the paid plans.
