Create a bot with BotFather, save its token in Frosvo, register the callback, and customers' Telegram messages arrive in your shared inbox where you reply as usual.

Telegram is one of the simplest channels to connect. Customers write to your bot, and you answer from the same inbox as website chats.

## Before you start

- A Telegram account on your phone or desktop.
- You must be an owner, or have the **Channels** permission.

## Step 1: create the bot

1. In Telegram open a chat with **@BotFather**.
2. Send `/newbot` and follow the questions for a name and a username.
3. Copy the **token** BotFather gives you. Keep it private: anyone with it controls the bot.

## Step 2: save it in Frosvo

1. Go to **Channels**, click **Add channel** and choose **Telegram**.
2. Pick the **Website** the conversations belong to and give the connection a name.
3. Paste the **Bot token**.
4. Choose a **Webhook secret**, a long random value of 32 to 256 letters, numbers, underscores or hyphens, and paste it too.
5. Click **Save and check**. Saved secrets are never shown again; leave a secret blank later to keep it.

## Step 3: register the callback

When the account check passes, the **Steps to turn it on** panel shows the address to add, with a **Copy** button. Register it with Telegram's `setWebhook` method, passing your webhook secret as the `secret_token` parameter. Then tick the box that says you registered the callback.

## Step 4: check and enable

1. Make sure **Account checked** has a tick: Frosvo confirmed the token works.
2. Click **Turn on messaging**.
3. Send a message to your bot from Telegram. It should appear in the **Inbox** as a conversation from Telegram.
4. Reply from the inbox and confirm it arrives in Telegram.

## Good to know

Use [shared replies](/docs/saved-replies-and-macros) to speed up common answers.

## If it does not work

Read the message at the top of the channel window and the status on the **Channels** page, then see [troubleshooting](/docs/troubleshooting). The Problems page lists rejected tokens. For other channels, see [all channels](/docs/channels).

## Common questions

**Who messages first?** A customer starts by messaging your bot. After that, your replies appear as bot messages.

**What if I regenerate the token in BotFather?** Open the channel from **Channels**, click **Edit**, paste the new token and click **Save and check**.

## Common questions

### Do I need a Telegram business account?

No. You create a bot with BotFather, which is free. Customers message the bot.

### What is the webhook secret?

A long password you choose, 32 to 256 letters, numbers, underscores or hyphens. Telegram sends it with every message so Frosvo knows the message is genuine.

### Who can set up channels?

Owners, and team members whose role includes the Channels permission.

### My bot does not answer. What should I check?

Check that messaging is enabled in Frosvo, that the callback was registered with Telegram, and that the token is the current one from BotFather.
