# Live chat for WHMCS: client-area chat with billing context

Add Frosvo live chat to your WHMCS client area in two steps, then connect the WHMCS API so each chat shows the client's services, domains and unpaid invoices beside it.

A client whose website is down does not want a ticket number. They want an answer now, in the place where they already manage their services. This guide sets up Frosvo live chat inside the WHMCS client area, and then shows how to see the client's account beside every chat.

## What you get

There are two parts, and you can stop after the first.

1. **The addon module** puts the chat on every client-area page and tells Frosvo the name and email of the client who is signed in.
2. **The WHMCS connection** in Frosvo reads the client's account through the WHMCS API. Your team then sees the account status, services and domains with their due dates, and unpaid invoices beside the conversation.

Both are included on the free plan. The AI assistant is on the paid plans.

## Part 1: add the chat to the client area

1. In Frosvo, open **Settings → Websites**, add your billing site, and copy its site key.
2. Download the module from the [WHMCS download page](/download/whmcs-module) and unzip it.
3. Upload the `modules/addons/frosvo` folder into your WHMCS installation, so it sits at `modules/addons/frosvo`.
4. In WHMCS go to **System Settings → Addon Modules**, find **Frosvo Live Chat** and click **Activate**.
5. Click **Configure**, paste the site key, and choose who may manage the module under Access Control.
6. Leave **Signed-in clients** on so the team sees who is writing. Tick **Admin area** only if your staff want the chat there too.
7. Save, then open the client area in a private window. The chat button appears in the corner.

## Part 2: show the client's account beside the chat

1. In WHMCS go to **System Settings → API Credentials** and choose **Generate New API Credential**.
2. Give it a role that can read clients, products, domains and invoices, and send emails. Allow Frosvo's server address under API IP access restriction.
3. In Frosvo open **Plugins**, install **WHMCS**, and enter your WHMCS address, the API identifier and the API secret. If you renamed the admin folder, enter its name too.
4. Open a conversation with a signed-in client. The side panel shows the account, its services and domains, and any unpaid invoices.

From that panel you can open the client in WHMCS, save their details to their Frosvo contact, and send the WHMCS **Invoice Payment Reminder** email for an unpaid invoice while the client is still in the chat.

## Which questions should the assistant answer?

On a paid plan, the Frosvo AI assistant can answer routine hosting questions from your own help articles: nameservers, DNS records, email setup, SSL and password resets. Questions about a client's own invoices, orders or services go to your team, who see the account beside the chat. Write short articles for your ten most common questions first; see the [AI assistant guide](/docs/ai-assistant).

## Put the same chat on your main website

Pre-sales questions arrive on your marketing site, not in the client area. Add the same chat there with the [install snippet](/docs/install-widget) or the WordPress plugin, and both kinds of conversation arrive in one inbox, labelled with where they came from.

## Common problems

- **The chat does not appear.** Check the site key and that the module is active. Test signed out or in a private window, and clear any cache.
- **A custom theme hides it.** The chat is added by WHMCS's footer hook. If your theme's footer template leaves out the footer output, add it back before the closing body tag.
- **The client panel is empty.** The client may not be signed in, or the WHMCS credential lacks a permission or an allowed IP address. Check both in WHMCS.
- **A security policy blocks the script.** Allow Frosvo's address in your site's content security policy.

## Common questions

### Is the WHMCS module free?

Yes. The addon module is free and Frosvo's free plan includes the chat and the shared inbox. The AI assistant, more seats and automation are on the paid plans.

### Do I need the WHMCS API connection to use the chat?

No. The addon module alone puts the chat in the client area and tells Frosvo who is signed in. The API connection is optional and adds the client's services, domains and invoices beside each conversation.

### What can Frosvo read from WHMCS?

Only what the API credential you create allows. Give it a role that can read clients, products, domains and invoices, and send emails for payment reminders. You can delete the credential in WHMCS at any time.

### Why does the chat not show for me in the client area?

The chat is added through WHMCS's footer hook. Check the site key, test signed out or in a private window, and make sure a custom theme's footer template still outputs the footer hook before the closing body tag.
