A shop visitor who cannot find the delivery cost or the right size will leave rather than search. Live chat answers that question while they are still on the page. This guide installs the free Frosvo extension (Frosvo_Chat) on Magento 2 and Adobe Commerce and checks that it works with your cache.
What do I need before I start?
- Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce 2.4.
- Command-line access to run
bin/magento. - A Frosvo account (the free plan is enough) with your shop added under Settings → Websites, and its site key copied.
How do I install the extension?
- Download the extension from the Magento download page and unzip it into your Magento root, so the code sits at
app/code/Frosvo/Chat. - Run these commands from the Magento root:
`` bin/magento module:enable Frosvo_Chat bin/magento setup:upgrade bin/magento cache:flush ``
In production mode also run bin/magento setup:di:compile and bin/magento setup:static-content:deploy.
- In the admin, open Stores → Configuration → Frosvo Live Chat, paste your site key and save.
- Flush the cache once more and visit your store. The chat button appears in the corner of every page.
Which settings does it have?
| Setting | What it does | |---|---| | Show the chat | On by default. You can switch it off per website or store view. | | Site key | From Frosvo, Settings → Websites. | | Frosvo address | Default scope only. Leave it as https://frosvo.com unless you run your own Frosvo server. | | Recognise signed-in customers | On by default. The customer's name and email are read from Magento's customer data in the browser and sent to Frosvo, so your team knows who is writing. |
To see each customer's orders beside the conversation, connect the Magento integration in Frosvo as well. The extension itself only adds the chat and the signed-in customer's name and email.
How do I check it works?
- Open your store in a private window. The chat button should show in the corner.
- Send a test message, then open the Frosvo desk: it arrives in the shared inbox, labelled with your website.
- Sign in as a test customer, open the chat again, and check the desk shows the customer's name.
- Look at the page source of a cached page (view source, search for
w.js): the chat script is there, and no customer name or email is written into it.
What if something does not work?
- The chat does not appear. Check the site key is saved at the right scope, then flush Magento's cache and your Varnish cache. Test signed out or in a private window.
- It still does not appear in production mode. After installing or updating, run
setup:di:compileandsetup:static-content:deploy, or the storefront may not pick up the new block. - A security policy blocks it. Allow Frosvo's address in your site's content security policy.
- One store view should not show the chat. Switch Show the chat off at that scope.
How do I update or remove it?
To update, replace app/code/Frosvo/Chat with the new version and run setup:upgrade and cache:flush again. Your settings are kept. To remove it, run bin/magento module:disable Frosvo_Chat, delete app/code/Frosvo/Chat, then setup:upgrade and cache:flush. Conversations stay in Frosvo.
For other platforms, see plugins for WordPress, WHMCS, Joomla and more. For how signed-in customers are recognised, read show signed-in customers by name, and for the chat's look and office hours, widget settings. If the chat still misbehaves, try troubleshooting. There is also a Magento live chat overview with what your team sees beside each chat.
