Install the free Frosvo system plugin on Joomla 4 or 5, paste your site key, enable it, and live chat appears on every page of your site.

A visitor who has a question and nobody to ask usually leaves. A chat window on every page gives them an answer while they are still reading. This guide installs the free Frosvo system plugin on Joomla 4 and 5.

What do I need before I start?

  • Joomla 4 or 5 (the plugin is tested on Joomla 5.4).
  • A Frosvo account (the free plan is enough) with your site added under Settings → Websites, and its site key copied.

How do I install the plugin?

  1. Download the plugin from the Joomla download page.
  2. In the Joomla administrator, go to System → Install → Extensions and upload the zip.
  3. Go to System → Manage → Plugins and open System - Frosvo Live Chat. Paste your site key, set Status to Enabled and save.
  4. Visit your site. The chat button appears in the corner.

The plugin adds the chat to every HTML page just before the end of the page, so it works with any template. It runs only on the site side, never in the administrator.

Which settings does it have?

| Setting | What it does | |---|---| | Site key | From Frosvo, Settings → Websites. | | Frosvo address | Leave it as https://frosvo.com unless you run your own Frosvo server. | | Signed-in users | Yes by default. A signed-in user's name and email are sent to Frosvo, so your team knows which member is writing. |

How do I check it works?

  1. Open your site in a private window (signed out). The chat button should show.
  2. Send a test message. It should arrive in the Frosvo shared inbox, labelled with your site.
  3. Sign in to the site as a test user and chat again. The desk should show their name.
  4. Open your administrator in another tab: the chat should not appear there.

What if something does not work?

  • The chat does not appear. Check the site key is saved and that the plugin's Status is Enabled. Test signed out or in a private window.
  • Page caching is on. Clear Joomla's cache after changing the plugin's settings.
  • A security policy blocks it. Allow Frosvo's address in your site's content security policy.
  • You run Joomla 3. Use the one-line snippet from Frosvo in your template instead (see the questions above).

How do I update or remove it?

Joomla tells you when a new version is out (System → Update → Extensions) and installs it in one click. You can also upload the new zip. Your settings are kept. To remove it, uninstall it in System → Manage → Extensions. Conversations stay in Frosvo.

For other platforms, see plugins for WordPress, WHMCS, Magento and more. To learn how signed-in users are recognised, read show signed-in customers by name, and for the chat's colours and office hours, widget settings. If the chat still misbehaves, try troubleshooting. There is also a Joomla live chat overview with what your team sees beside each chat.

Frequently asked questions

Does the chat show in the Joomla administrator?

No. The plugin only adds the chat to the public site, never to the administrator.

Is there a version for Joomla 3?

No. The plugin is built for Joomla 4 and 5. On an older site, paste the one-line chat snippet from Frosvo into your template, just before the closing body tag, and the chat works the same way.

I installed the plugin but nothing shows. Why?

The plugin must be enabled as well as installed. Open System, Manage, Plugins, find System - Frosvo Live Chat, set Status to Enabled, and clear Joomla's cache.

Is the Joomla plugin free?

Yes. The plugin is free (GPL), and Frosvo's free plan includes the chat and the shared inbox. The AI assistant is on the paid plans.
